Bowls

Bowls for serving, sharing and display
Few pieces work as hard as a good bowl. Small bowls hold desserts, dips and nuts; larger ones carry salads and fruit; a single sculptural piece can stand on its own as a centrepiece on a dining or coffee table. The material decides much of the effect. Crystal from Baccarat, the Lorraine glassworks founded in 1764, catches the light and gives fruit or flowers a jewel-like setting. Limoges porcelain from Raynaud is fine, white and richly decorated, and moves easily from family meals to formal service.
Marie Daâge's hand-painted porcelain brings pattern and colour that can be mixed with other services, while Georg Jensen, founded in Copenhagen in 1904, approaches the bowl as an exercise in Scandinavian form, with clean lines that work as well on a sideboard as on the table. Choosing between them is a question of use as much as style: porcelain for daily serving, crystal for special occasions and display. Our news has also featured the handmade ceramic plates and bowls of Emporio Sirenuse, inspired by the Amalfi Coast.
