Georg Jensen
The House of Georg Jensen
Georg Jensen trained as a goldsmith and studied sculpture before opening his silversmithy in Copenhagen in 1904. His hand-hammered silver, with soft, rounded forms and motifs of fruit, leaves and flowers, brought the spirit of Art Nouveau to Danish craft and soon found admirers well beyond Denmark.
From the beginning Jensen worked with other artists. The painter Johan Rohde designed the Acorn cutlery in 1915, a pattern still made today. Later designers added new chapters: the linear designs of Sigvard Bernadotte, the fluid silver of Henning Koppel and, more recently, collaborations with designers such as Ilse Crawford. Today the company works in stainless steel as well as silver, bringing the same attention to proportion and finish to cutlery, bowls, barware and candleholders.
