Cups & Saucers

Porcelain cups and saucers for coffee and tea

Cups and saucers are often the pieces used most in a home: an espresso in the morning, tea in the afternoon, coffee at the end of a dinner. Shapes follow their purpose, from small coffee cups to wider teacups and generous breakfast cups, and a well-made saucer gives the set its balance. Because a cup is small, it is also the easiest way to bring a bold pattern to the table, or to collect several designs and mix them.

The houses in this collection show how different that can look. Raynaud and J.L. Coquet work in Limoges porcelain, the first with coloured and gilded decoration, the second with collections such as Hemisphere, finished in white and gold. Marie Daâge porcelain is painted by hand, combining stripes, florals and scenes so that cups from different patterns sit happily together. Gien brings the warmth of French faience, made on the Loire since 1821, and Baccarat, best known for its crystal, has also turned to porcelain with its Arcadia service.
