Venini
The House of Venini
Venini was founded in 1921 on the island of Murano by Paolo Venini, a lawyer from Milan, and Giacomo Cappellin, a Venetian antiques dealer. Their idea was to bring modern design into a glassmaking tradition that reaches back to the Middle Ages, and from the beginning the house invited architects and artists to work alongside its glass masters at the furnace.
That collaboration produced the murrine and sommerso pieces of Carlo Scarpa, artistic director from the early 1930s to the late 1940s, and the Fazzoletto, the handkerchief vase created by Fulvio Bianconi and Paolo Venini in the late 1940s. Techniques such as murrine, incalmo and filigrana are still practised by hand, and the house continues to work with designers such as Ron Arad and Peter Marino.
Venini at DEROS THE SHOP in Athens
Venini was among the brands with which DEROS THE SHOP opened in 2015. At 8 Sekeri Street in the heart of Athens, DEROS THE SHOP presents a selection of Venini glass:
- Vases: classic and contemporary designs such as Monofiori Carnevale, in our vases collection
- Designer editions including Murrine Romane by Carlo Scarpa, Ritagli by Fulvio Bianconi, Geodi by Sonia Pedrazzini and Paladini by Emmanuel Babled
- Contemporary collections such as the sandblasted Frozen icons and the Black Belt collection by Peter Marino
Each Venini piece is blown and finished by hand, so no two are exactly alike, which makes a vase or a glass object a lasting gift.
Our team offers professional advice on styling and gifts and can sample selected pieces to help you choose those that suit your home style. Visit the shop or get in touch to discover the collection.
