Lamps bring light down to the level where life happens: beside a sofa for reading, on a console in a hall, on a desk or on either side of a bed. Unlike ceiling lighting, they create pools of warm light that make a room feel intimate in the evening, and they can be moved as a room changes. A lamp is also a decorative object by day, so its base deserves as much attention as its light.

Crystal makes that especially clear. A Baccarat lamp uses the cut crystal of the house, founded in Lorraine in 1764, to catch and multiply light, so the base glows as well as the shade. Philippe Starck, who has reinterpreted several Baccarat classics, brings a theatrical, contemporary spirit to the crystal lamp.
