Luxury dinner sets for the Art of Dining

A dinner service sets the tone of a table. Beyond dinner, dessert and soup plates, many patterns extend to serving platters, cups and saucers, so that one design can carry a meal from the first course to coffee. The houses in this collection approach it in different ways. Limoges porcelain, fired at high temperature into a fine, white and durable body, is the speciality of Raynaud, of J.L. Coquet, which has worked in the Haute-Vienne since 1824, and of Haviland. Gien, founded in 1821 on the banks of the Loire, works instead in faience, a glazed earthenware with a softer, warmer character, decorated by hand.

Hand painting is also the signature of Marie Daâge, who combines stripes, florals and figurative scenes within one setting, and of Victoria de Borbón, whose collections include The Greek Collection. Designers add a further voice: the Cristobal pattern by the decorator Alberto Pinto, made by Raynaud, comes in red and ultramarine blue, joined more recently by the Cristobal Emeraude in emerald green.
