Daum

Daum is a prestigious French crystal manufacturer, founded in 1878 in Nancy. Renowned for its innovative pâte de verre technique, the brand creates exquisite handcrafted art glass, vases, and sculptures. Blending artistic tradition with modern design, Daum is celebrated worldwide for its unique, luxurious, and collectible masterpieces.

The House of Daum

In 1878 Jean Daum, a notary from Lorraine, took over a glassworks in Nancy. His sons Auguste and Antonin turned it towards art glass, and Daum became, with Émile Gallé, part of the École de Nancy, the Art Nouveau movement that drew its motifs from plants, flowers and insects. After the Second World War the house focused on clear crystal, working it in fluid, sculptural forms.

Pâte de verre is the technique most closely associated with Daum. Daum uses lost-wax casting: fragments of coloured crystal melt into a refractory mould taken from a wax model, so that colour runs through the whole piece rather than sitting on its surface, and each piece is then finished by hand. Daum revived the technique in 1968 and has since invited artists and designers to work with it, Salvador Dalí among them, which is why many of its pieces sit between decorative object and sculpture.

Daum at DEROS THE SHOP in Athens

At 8 Sekeri Street in the centre of Athens, DEROS THE SHOP presents a selection of Daum pieces chosen for the way they bring colour and light into a room, as part of our Art of Living:

  • Vases in crystal and pâte de verre; see also our vases collection
  • Sculptures and art glass: decorative pieces made to be displayed and collected
  • Gifts for weddings, anniversaries and new homes, in sizes that suit a shelf, a console or a dining table

Because every pâte de verre piece is cast and finished by hand, colour and texture are best judged in person, in the light of the room where the piece will live.

Our team can arrange sampling of selected pieces to help you choose those that suit your home style, and offers professional consulting on styling and gifts. Visit the shop or get in touch to discover the collection.
