Gien
The House of Gien
The Faïencerie de Gien was founded in 1821 by Thomas Hall, an Englishman who set up his workshops on the banks of the Loire, in the town that gave the house its name. The manufacture became a familiar name on French tables, and its pieces are still shaped, fired, glazed and decorated in Gien today.
Much of Gien's decoration is still painted by hand, and its archive runs from rich historical patterns to fresh contemporary designs. The house regularly invites artists, designers and fashion houses to create new services. These collaborations keep a two-hundred-year tradition lively and make Gien a natural choice for tables that mix patterns and colours, where plates, cups and serving dishes from different collections meet on the same table.
