Jonathan Adler
About Jonathan Adler
Jonathan Adler discovered pottery as a teenager and went on to study at Brown University. Once his ceramics had found their first stockists in New York, he opened his own shop in SoHo in 1998. The company has since grown into a full home collection of furniture, lighting, textiles and accessories, yet handmade pottery remains at its heart.
His style blends mid-century modernism with a sense of humour: bold geometric patterns, references to Pop and Op Art, polished brass and glossy lacquer. Recurring motifs such as eyes, lips and stylised animals turn everyday objects into conversation pieces. Adler has also written several books on decorating, among them the Happy Chic series, built on the idea that a home should, above all, make the people who live in it happy.
